Artwork: A Sense of Place

Christine graduated from WIT with Diploma in Art. She has participated in various group shows in both Dublin and Wicklow, including a show at NCAD, where she was awarded a prize for her body of work in print and mixed media. She exhibits her work on an ongoing basis in The Design House and online. She works on commissions and is currently preparing for a new exhibition. Her inspiration comes from a deep connection and reverence for the land and the environment and this resonates in her work. Her paintings are based on or relate to the idea that the earth and indeed landscape holds this energy.

She visualises what is happening energetically deep below the surface and layers of rock and soil. The paintings become a series of marks each one trying to capture the essence of the Land. Christine combines mark making with a diverse combination of mediums including cold wax, gesso, paint, oil pastel, gold, copper leaf and graphite. She experiments and tries to push the boundaries of the materials. She likes building up layers of different mediums, then removing or adding other elements and changing it, creating contrast and movement.
